It is estimated that nearly 1 million Americans attempt suicide and more than 32,000 die by suicide every year. The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) is the leading not-for-profit organization dedicated to funding suicide prevention research, education and awareness programs as well as programs to support survivors of suicide. For more information please visit www.afsp.org.
The Bank of America Chicago Marathon in October 2012 will be the 3rd year AFSP has a charity team running! We are excited at your interest and look forward to running those miles with you! Please know that every ounce of dedication, fundraising and community exposure helps to create new opportunities to educate our community on the taboo subject of suicide. As always, we run/walk to raise awareness and support.
As a marathon team member, all AFSP runners will receive update email newsletters of training goals and latest news as we gear up toward October 2012. Additionally, you will receive a team t-shirt, group dinner the night before the marathon and team memorabilia. More details to come!

AFSP is partnering with Chicago Area Runners Association (CARA) for this event with a discounted training program fee. If you wish to be a part of the CARA training program fill out the form and return it directly to CARA. For more information on CARA visit www.cararuns.org.
If you wish to train on your own, we encourage you to consult with your doctor and prepare by getting proper shoes. Additionally, see what other local running clubs are available as we see running groups as encouragement and accountability while training! Also, you may find Hal Higdon's marathon training plans helpful.
